Saying Goodbye to Muppets Courtyard

Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort has seen significant transformations over the years, with ongoing efforts to modernize the park and appeal to evolving guest preferences. One of the latest changes sparking discussion is the closure of Muppet Courtyard and rumors of a Monsters, Inc. expansion. These developments underscore Disney’s commitment to creating immersive and engaging experiences while retiring less popular or aging attractions.

Farewell to Muppet Courtyard

Muppet Courtyard, located near the park’s center, has been a quirky and beloved area for fans of Jim Henson’s creations. Anchored by MuppetVision 3D*, this section featured a humorous take on Hollywood with Muppet-themed decor and food options, such as PizzeRizzo. For decades, it served as a nostalgic homage to the Muppets’ unique brand of humor and creativity.

However, as the park has shifted its focus to immersive storytelling and franchise-based lands, Muppet Courtyard has struggled to maintain its appeal. Its closure marks the end of an era, leaving fans to wonder about the future of MuppetVision 3D*. Some speculate that the attraction could be relocated, while others fear it may be retired entirely.

Jackie from popular Youtube channel SuperEnthused shared in her video, “Look live and let live but I don’t think there is anyone who actually wants the Muppets to go away!”

Monsters, Inc. Expansion

In its place, Disney has announced that they are planning a Monsters, Inc. expansion. The Pixar franchise, which follows the adventures of lovable monsters Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan, has been a fan favorite since the release of the original film in 2001. A Monsters, Inc. land could inject new life into this area of the park, attracting families with young children and fans of Pixar’s heartfelt storytelling.

Disney has teased that it will be giving the fans what they want, with a doors-themed rollercoaster, character meet-and-greets, themed dining, merchandise, and more!

Balancing Nostalgia and Innovation

The closure of Muppet Courtyard is bittersweet for longtime fans. The Muppets have a loyal following, and the quirky humor of MuppetVision 3D* was a unique offering in the park. However, the potential Monsters, Inc. expansion represents an opportunity to introduce a new generation to an imaginative and visually dynamic franchise.

If you are looking to enjoy MuppetVision 3D or the Muppet’s themed restaurant PizzeRizzo the closing date will but June 7th, 2024 with a closing date of May 10th, 2024 for Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano.

Not all are excited for the change however. Tiktok user Rachel shared her feelings about the change mentioning that it was important to her since this is the last project Jim Henson (creator of the Muppets) worked on.

It may be dramatic but Jim Henson is one of my favorite artists of all time. I’m hoping i can laugh at this in 10 years but know I probably won’t. #muppets #muppetscourtyard #jimhenson #kermet #disneyworld
